Best of 2021: Favorite Moment

This one was an easy decision. Granted, there were plenty of great things about 2021. We took some big trips: Disney World, Myrtle Beach, and Marco Island. We also did some of our normal things like going to baseball games, the zoo, playing outside, and all of those other fun family things.

However, the best moment for me this year was being by my brother’s side for his wedding. He asked me in January to be his best man in cool way. The kids were in the wedding as well and the best part: it was in Florida! I knew I had to give an amazing speech and I have to say that I NAILED IT!

Seriously, it was so damn good AND as it turns out, Kevin from This Is Us copied my speech (I did it first!). I was definitely worried that I would make my Princess Bride reference and no one would laugh (have you ever been to a wedding when the best man stumbles through a joke and it is just an awkward silence? I was terrified of that prospect). Fortunately, everyone laughed, or at least I think they did.

I also wanted my speech to be perfect for another reason. Rachel! Okay, I am going to make a faux pas here and mention that I already gave a best man speech for my brother. My heart was just not into that one. I was just not a huge fan of his ex-wife, but I wanted Adam to be happy. When everything fell apart, I decided that if he found someone again, I would be upfront if I thought it was a bad idea. Fortunately, that was not needed. Adam did end up happy though, it was just a bumpy ride to get there. Rachel completes him and they are perfect together. And I wanted Rachel to know how much we love her and how happy we are that she is part of our family. I hope I got the point across and that she knows that.

Anyways, the wedding was beautiful. The kids were actually really good. I wish I could have spent more time with Adam and Rachel before and after, but being at the beach with two kids can be difficult. Especially when most of the other people do not have kids. Fortunately, they will soon be joining us on the parental journey (they are expecting, if you could not figure that out). I look forward to meeting my niece in 2022.
