My Failures

I do not usually write about my home project failures. Believe me, there are plenty of them. Today was one of those times where I fixed a mistake. Allow me to tell you a story…

When we moved in, I put a TV in our bedroom. I wanted to hide the cords behind the wall (like I did in the playroom). But…things kept piling up. Projects would need done. And that television just hung there on the wall. Like a weird piece of post-modern art. It did not bother me at all because I do not watch TV in bed. Lindsey does or so she claims, but sleeping with a TV on is not really the same as watching, right?

One summer day, I had a few projects to do and Lindsey said “you need to hook that TV up!” Okay, cool. That, along with the other stuff would take me like thirty minutes and then I was going golfing.I told her it would probably take me all day. So, I got started that day after dropping the kids off at daycare (yeah, sometimes I take the kids to daycare if I need to get projects done…I am a shitty parent, blah blah blah–look, we pay for three days no matter what, so some weeks, we just need to take them a day). I cut the top hole and lined up where the bottom hole would be and cut that one out as well. Then I dropped the power cord down the hole. And guess what???

There was a 2×4 going across between the two studs. The cord would drop and go THUD and that was the end of it. So I had two holes in the wall and I still could not hide the cords. I probably messed with it and tried to figure out a solution for a few hours. Then I gave up. I decided to just fix the holes and do something else. Oh, but I was out of stuff to patch the wall. Ugh, so I had to go to Lowes. By the time I finished up the wall. It was almost time for Lindsey and the kids to come home and I was still not done with the other stuff. Yeah, so much for golfing that day (serves me right for being sneaky).

I had to allow the wall to dry and it needed sanded. I did all that, but then I never got around to painting it. Not sure why, I just kept putting it off. So yeah, there was this stupid unpainted part of the wall that I needed to fix. There was a point a few months ago where I did plug the TV in and it would not connect to the WiFi (actually it could not find the network). So yeah, even more issues to deal with.

Flashforward (I wish that show wouldn’t have been canceled) to today. I painted the wall and hid the cords with a thing I got off Amazon. I then painted it the same color as the wall. I used another one above the heater so the cords were hidden all the way to the outlet. I hooked up the television and decided to tackle the next problem.

Lindsey bought a WiFi booster (hopefully that helps with the outdoor projector) and I set it up on our desktop computer, then brought it upstairs. I did not think it would work since she bought it online and it was fairly cheap. But you know what? It worked perfectly. So now we have television in the bedroom and guess what? Lindsey is asleep on the couch while I watch Superman & Lois. I guess some things never change. At least I was able to finally fix one of my mistakes.
