Pennsylvanians in the Winter Olympics

I had fun writing my Summer Olympics post. I decided I should do it again for the Winter Olympics. Well guess what? There are not that many Winter Olympians from Pennsylvania. I know, it is crazy! We do not have huge mountains or frozen lakes. So yeah, this will probably be a quick post, haha.

Summer Britcher
She is a luge person. A luger? I do not know what you call a person who does luge. She went to Susquehannock High School. This is her third Olympics since she made the luge team in 2014 and 2018. Seriously, do we call it a luge team?

Andrew Heo
Heo is a short-track speedskater. He was born in Warrington. I hope he wins a medal in the 1000m. This is Andrew’s first Olympics and from what I can tell, he must have shook the speedskating world by qualifying for Beijing.

Brian O’Neill
Brian is part of the Men’s Hockey team and he was born in Yardley and went to Germantown Academy.

Tenuous Connections
Okay, so there are a few connections to Pennsylvania from the hockey world. David Warsofsky played 12 games for the Penguins in 2015 (he even scored a goal!). And he played the rest of the year at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Remember Kenny Agostino? He was drafted by the Penguins, but was part of the trade with Calgary that brought the Pens Jarome Iginla. Patrick Nagle and Andy Miele have played for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, while Aaron Ness played for the Hershey Bears.

The women also have a few representatives. Penn State’s associate head coach, Allison Coomey, is one of the scouts for Team USA. Jessica Adolfsson plays hockey at Penn State, but she will be representing Sweden in this Olympics. I believe she is the first Penn State hockey player in the Olympics.

Good luck to all the Olympians, we will be rooting for you!
