2022 NFL Pick ‘Em Week 9

I was the winner again, but this time with only eight. That brings my record back to .500 and has me in third place. Mom is still in first and she is seven ahead of Jon, who is one up on me. After that we have Sean, Scott, Offord, James, and Adam.

Underdog Special: Seattle Seahawks (+2.0)
I did not like many of the underdogs this week, so I took Seattle. I actually took them on the money line because +2 is so close that you might as well just take a win. Watch, they will lose by a last second field goal by one. Anyways, I was right about the Packers last week, so keep listening to me.
Underdog Record: 6-2 (+$46.25)

Steelers Prediction: Hey, we have a bye week! Thank goodness. At least my prediction was correct from last week. I was also right about Pickett only throwing one interception. I am so smart.
Steelers Prediction Record: 3-5

I want to talk about quarterbacks this week. I enjoy looking at the draft rankings at a bunch of different sites. My favorite is WalterFootball. I just like how they give some valid criticisms and honest takes on players (I think they once described a QB as a slower, less athletic version of Alex Smith, haha). Anyways, I am watching the Coastal Carolina/Appalachian State game and wondering where they rank Grayson McCall.

They have him as the #13 QB. When I watch him play, he reminds me of Case Keenum. I remember back in 2011 when Houston beat Penn State in the bowl game, I tweeted how I would not mind if the Steelers drafted Keenum. A few people said that Keenum was just a system QB who would never make it in the NFL. That is basically the same thing WalterFootball said back then. They had Keenum as #12.

Not saying Case Keenum is a great quarterback or anything like that, but he is good. He has stayed in the league for a decade, which is more than some of those guys ahead of him can say. The system comment always annoys me because QBs still have to make accurate throws.

My point here is that teams are slobbering all over Will Levis, C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, K.J. Jefferson, and a few others, but it will be a guy like Grayson McCall that just quietly does the work and ends up a decent starter for a few years. Or at least a guy that teams give decent contracts to because they know he will be a solid backup.

I guess my secondary point is that teams are trying so hard to find the next Josh Allen/Patrick Mahomes that they will convince themselves that every quarterback is either one or the other. But you know what?  A team with a good defense and great offensive line/running game? Maybe you just need an accurate thrower and game manager.
