How Did I Do?–2023 Baseball Predictions

Another season in the books…and damn, what a season. Definitely did not have the Rangers winning the World Series. Nor did I expect them to be playing the Diamondbacks. There were historic seasons from a few players, such as Ohtani and Acuña. The Pirates started off well, but then…they remembered that they are the Pirates. So how were my predictions this year? Not very good. As I have said before, it is either great or terrible, no in-between.

I picked 9/30. And most of my correct picks were just the bottom-dwellers. I did predict two division champions, the Astros and Braves. And I think I only guessed one playoff winner (the Phillies). At least in the awards department, I did a little better. I predicted Ronald Acuña Jr. and Gunnar Henderson winning AL MVP and ROY. I was way off on the Pirates record, which is a good thing.

My big prediction for the year was about the parity in the league. I believed we would see less 100-win/100-loss teams. Not really, there were three 100-win teams, and four 100-loss teams. But I was spot on about the rule changes and how they would affect the game. There were 1100 more stolen bases from the previous year. The batting average went from .243 to .248. The games were shorter, which was a nice thing.

I need to do a better job with my predictions next year.

  1. Include me for next season on the predictions! I’m positive my predictions would’ve crushed you this past season, but there’s no way to prove it because you’ve lost patience with fatherhood…I always thought that would go in the other direction…

    1. I apologize! I just felt like the last few years when I asked you guys, that I was being a pain, and that you and Jason did not have time to do it. I will definitely ask you next year.
