Best of 2025: Favorite Logan Moment

2025 has been the year when Logan has become my little buddy. People always love to say things like “oh, is this your little buddy.” And when he was younger, it was amusing, but not really true. But now…yeah, he and I do tons of stuff together. Logan has crafted his identity, and it revolves around sports. When he is home, he wants to do something sports related. If it is nice out, we are in the batting cage, or we are playing catch. If we are in the house, he wants me to throw the Nerf football to him. If I am watching football, he will sit with me and ask tons of questions.
But that is not all we do. This past year, he and I started watching some movies together. We went to see the Marvel movies together (we sawย Thunderbolts* andย Captain America: Brave New World). We also spent many nights watching movies together. We cranked throughย Infinity War andย Endgame. I think we watched some of the Star Wars movies. Logan and I had some great lightsaber battles in the playroom.ย
He improved at basketball, his first year, he just kind of stood there and did not know what to do, but this fall, he started playing solid defense and his dribbling improved. He also got to play flag football, and he definitely loved doing that. He made some nice catches during the season (usually when he had the best quarterback throwing to him–me).
It is hard to pick a single favorite moment this year. There are two that really stand out. I loved taking him to State College for his first wrestling tournament. He had so much fun, and it definitely made him excited to do it again.
However, my favorite moment this year was during his all-star game. I already mentioned his great throw. Here is what I said in that post:
But the coolest thing was two of the plays Logan made in the field. He was playing 3B in the last game, and he fielded a hard grounder, and threw to the second baseman for the out. Actual throws to the base are kind of rare at this age. The next play was what ended the last game. The bases were loaded with two outs, a ball is hit up the third base line, Logan tries to make a play on it, but it skips past him. It was a fair ball, but it rolled into foul territory about fifteen feet past third. The runner on second was going home, so Logan picked it up, and threw it home. The ball beat the runner on a single bounce. There was a little debate about it (the coach as a catcher rule in this age causes arguments just about every game), but in the end, the runner was out. As one of the coaches put it โthat was probably one of the best throws I have seen at this level!โ I was super proud of him.
It was not just a great throw, but it kind of became a bit of a legend. I am not kidding when I say this, I have heard two different people mention the throw. The first time was at a baseball meeting, people were talking about the different all-star games, and some guy, who I do not know was like “I saw a crazy throw in one of the single-A games….this kid threw out a runner at home from the outfield, it was nuts!” Then during flag football, one of the dads pointed to Logan and was like “that was the kid who made that throw during all-stars.” Definitely a proud parent moment.

So a funny Logan moment happened when we went to seeย Thunderbolts*. There is a part in the movie where Yelena says to John Walker “you were Captain America? It’s funny…you’re an asshole.” As soon as she says it, Logan goes “Dad, what’s an asshole?” And the theater was quiet enough that everyone heard and started laughing. It was definitely a cute moment.ย
