A Many-Threaded Tapestry

The latest book in the Destiny’s Crucible series by Olan Thorensen. The last book was boring, but ended on a good cliffhanger. This one was a little more interesting. And like the last book, this one also has a fantastic cliffhanger. I will get to that in a second. The main arc is about Robin becoming part of the core group, and the contributions she can bring to Yozef’s desires to better Caedellium, but at the same time we are preparing for war against Narthon, which seems more inevitable now that the evil empire has sent massive forces to a neighboring continent (the geography can get confusing at times without a map handy). And the new allied forces are having issues of their own. Can Yozef hold everything together?
Okay, onto the big ending. Mark’s engineers invent wireless communication. It has a limited distance at first. The Americans are there for the first test. They do their little fun stuff, then the machine starts signaling without anyone being there. At first they believe it to be some kind of short. But Yozef realizes that the pattern is a number sequence. 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8…the Fibonacci Sequence. Someone is communicating with them.
Obviously this has to be the aliens. My guess is that it is the alien AI that has recently become more self-aware. I think Yozef has explained that he believes there are three sets of aliens. The first would be the ones who brought Earth flora and fauna here, including the first humans. The second group brought them here (I think the AI Yozef encounters does not know why there are humans on the planet or how they got there). Then there is the alien tech Yozef has found on the planet, which he believes belongs to a different group since it is not nearly as advanced as what he saw on the spaceship, nor what would be required to transport humans/plants/animals from Earth.
I am actually excited for the next book.
