Payton’s Kindergarten Graduation

I do not remember having a kindergarten graduation. This is one of those things that pre-children, I would have made fun of for being a stupid ceremony that celebrates something trivial. But now? It is still a little silly, but I enjoyed seeing Payton up on stage. She was excited about singing the songs, but she was also nervous about all the people being in the audience.

I enjoyed how they did it, the kids were broken up by class, and before each class was called, the entire group would sing a song. The first song was “Hello-Good-bye”, followed by “Mister Sun”, then “We Will Rock You”, after that we got “One Small Voice”, and finally it was “First Grade.” They began the whole thing by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, and singing the National Anthem. “We Will Rock You” was changed to a first grade version “we will rock first grade” with some other funny lyrics about things pertaining to kids. The final song was a parody of “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift. It was cute.

When Payton was finally called to get her diploma, she walked so fast, and barely stopped to shake the teacher’s hand. Once the graduation was over, the kids were being dismissed in an orderly fashion to “Can’t Stop the Feeling”, which Payton was doing a good job dancing to as she walked. I guess dance class is paying off.

After the ceremony, we came home and celebrated with some ice cream cake. It is incredible to see the difference in Payton from the beginning of the year to now. Scary to think how much more she will change over the coming years.

Random aside…sometimes people wonder why I write posts like this. These are mainly for me. I mean, I know some people enjoy hearing about the family stuff, but honestly I write it because my memory is not nearly as good as it once was. I know that in five or six years, Lindsey will be saying about the kindergarten graduation, and I will be certain the song they sang was “We Are the Champions” and Lindsey will correct me, but I won’t believe her, so then I will look it up…and find out that I am wrong. This happens way too often.
