Found in My Attic: A Hat

I am stealing this type of post from Sean, who periodically writes Found in My Basement. I do not have a ton of stuff in the basement since we lost tons of stuff during the floods. Also, I am not someone who saves a ton of stuff. I tend to get rid of anything I have not used in two years.

But we do have a bunch of stuff in the attic, and recently Lindsey wanted to go through it in order to start selling some of the kids stuff on Marketplace. I found a bin that was a bunch of keepsake stuff from my dad. In the one bin I found an old hat of mine. I got it when I went to the Clarion Wrestling Camp in 8th grade. But the cool thing? I wore it to see John Prine with Dad, and we stayed after the show and my one uncle spoke to a roadie, who got us backstage to meet my dad’s hero.

We stood in line for a little bit, and eventually we met John. My dad was on the verge of tears, and asked if he could give him a hug. John Prine laughed and said “you ain’t gonna try anything funny?” Dad laughed, and Mr. Prine stood up and gave him a big hug. Dad said how much his music meant to him, and then John Prine signed my hat, and I think something for my dad and uncle.

Such a cool moment.
