2025 College Football Predictions: Big XII Conference

I hope the Big XII gets back to what the used to do so well…develop quarterbacks with big arms and a love for chucking it a ton. I loved the era around 2008, when you had Graham Harrell, Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel, and Colt McCoy. Or 2016 when there was Mahomes, Mayfield, and Rudolph putting up monster numbers. Last year? The Big XII had one QB over 4000 yards. A far cry from the days of 5000 yards. Could 2025 be a big year with Sam Leavitt, Sawyer Robertson, Rocco Becht, Avery Johnson, Josh Hoover, and Jalon Daniels? Hopefully. I need more Big XII games that end up 65-63 with over 1000 yards of combined passing offense.

 Kenny Dillingham will prove to the world that Arizona State was not a fluke last year, having Leavitt will definitely help, plus the team has confidence. The Sun Devils have a favorable schedule, especially a weak non-conference schedule (it is funny, when Mississippi State scheduled ASU, it was probably considered a weak game for them…now look where these teams are).

I do think Kansas State, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Baylor, and TCU will all compete for that second spot in the conference (and I would think one or two of them will beat ASU, but also lose more conference games). They are all good teams, and they could beat each other up, or one of them could rise above the rest to challenge Arizona State. 

Intriguing Team: Texas Tech. They had filled a ton of needs via the portal (I believe their portal class was ranked 2nd). Joey McGuire is an excellent coach, and he brought in Texas State OC Mack Leftwich, who as some of you may remember, was who I mentioned at some point for Penn State if Kotelnicki took the WVU job. They will score points with Behren Morton slinging the ball to some big WRs. The alumni put some money into the program, and it looks like the Red Raiders are ready to get back to being one of the elite teams in the conference.

Hot Seat: The Big XII should remain stable in regards to coaching. The only coach I could see being in trouble is Scott Satterfield. The Bearcats have not performed well since he took over for Luke Fickell, but it does not look like any of the teams that jumped from the AAC to a bigger conference have done well yet. Cincinnati will probably be patient, but if Houston/UCF make a big leap in wins this year, the school may need to figure out what is going wrong.

New/Old Faces: Scott Frost and Rich Rodriguez return to their roots. Frost takes over UCF, where he was very successful. Rich-Rod comes back to West Virginia, and it has been quite the journey. I think it went something like WVU–>Michigan–>Arizona –>Jacksonville State–>WVU.
