2020 Fantasy Football Draft Results

Very excited to have another fun season of my fantasy football league. For those that are not familiar, this league is one where QBs are rewarded a bit more than other positions. I have tried over the years to tweak the scoring enough to make a pretty big difference between an elite QB versus an average one. So if you follow this for the season, you will notice that scoring is very high and sometimes can be a bit ridiculous. We had two teams drop out this year, which means we are playing with 14. I like 16, but I realize that is not everyone’s cup of tea.

Here are the results from the draft:

I was stuck with the 9th pick and figured Mixon was going to be my guy, but then Lindsey did something crazy and drafted Patrick Mahomes at #2 instead of Saquon. I decided to go with Michael Thomas. I understand Lindsey’s rationale, but I honestly think she could have waited until the second round and had Mahomes there.

I have Deshaun Watson as my QB. Definitely one of the quarterbacks who can pick up a ton of points. I really like the Dobbins pick in the fifth round by Gideon.

Lindsey had a string of picks where she took the person I wanted. It started with CeeDee Lamb, which I thought was odd for her. Then she took Noah Fant, which was the TE my brother wanted, it had been a toss up between Fant and Gesicki for me. But the big one was taking the Steelers defense. I planned on taking them in that round even if no one had taken a defense yet, but then Bill got things started and Lindsey decided to take the Steelers. At that point, I was not going to get stuck with some shitty defense. It is funny, people will joke about taking a defense too early, but honestly, how many times do we complain about a defense costing us a week? Maybe the points are not incredibly high all the time, but they can sometimes be a huge difference.

I started getting annoyed in this round because it seemed like none of the players I planned to reach for were available. In round ten I was going to take Justin Tucker (and then hope that Jeudy was available in the 11th). Yeah, Ryan and Dustin decided to dash my dreams. I decided to take a backup QB, but the one I had almost picked had a bye week the same time as Watson. So I decided to go with Burrows. That could end up being a risky gamble, especially if Watson gets hurt.

The bottom of the draft is always a little blah. Everyone is ready to be done. I like my brother’s pick of Drew Lock. I took Vance McDonald, which could end up paying off well if he can play a full season (he has never done that in his career). My favorite pick is probably Bryce Love. The Stanford star was injured last year and fell a bit in the draft, but has been announced as the started for the Washington Football Team.

The last round was nothing crazy. I normally take a flyer on some player that I think could be a breakout star (usually a Penn State guy), but this year I went with Carlos Hyde. Maybe he takes over that job in Seattle and ends up with 1000+ yards. Probably not, but you never know.

I do enjoy reading what Yahoo says about the draft. They really mocked me for taking Gesicki where I did and for taking Moss before I drafted a TE. Oh well, what the hell do they know. Last year they predicted me to finish in last place and that did not happen.

Good luck to everyone this season, except Jason since he won last year…
