Decades Project: 2020s Movie–Saltburn

If you want to watch a messed up movie over the weekend, I highly suggest Saltburn. I remember seeing the previews, and it felt like one of those movies that shows how demented and despicable rich people can be in their private moments. It was also one of those movies that young people started talking about and sharing clips because of some super weird things. I think it was part of the cultural zeitgeist early in the year. It is also has some fantastic performances, particularly Jacob Elordi and Barry Keoghan. Plus, you get some weird scenes, like a bathtub scene that will stick with you forever.

Okay, some spoilers from here…

There was a moment early in the movie that gives away the whole thing. When Felix takes Oliver to the bridge and says that his family has a tradition of throwing a stone into the river with a dead person’s name on it. Oliver writes “dad” on the stone, then throws it, but the stone ends up on the bank and not in the water. Makes sense since his father is not actually dead. I think the moment it really hits us is when the two men are driving to Oliver’s home, and it is a nice suburban area, not somewhere that Felix expects to find a drug addict and alcoholic living.
