History Fact: There are scholars who believe this city to be the “Stone Tower” referenced by Ptolemy in Geography. The tower was said to be the midpoint between Europe and China. This city is one of four probable sites.

Geography Fact: Sits at the confluence of the Chirchiq River and is located on an active tectonic plate, meaning the city feels tremors and earthquakes. Actually the city was destroyed in an earthquake in 1966, but the Soviet Union rebuilt it and it quickly became the 4th biggest city in the USSR.
