Top 50: Favorite TV Shows (30-21)

After you watched the video of Chappelle’s Show, did you end up watching a few more and find yourself saying “I’m Rick James, bitch!”

30. The Good Place
A show about the afterlife, but with a focus on ethics and philosophy. The way the characters evolved over the course of four seasons was quite impressive. It is one of those shows that would make me laugh and also bring me to tears all within a few minutes of a single episode.

29. The Punisher
It was only two seasons, but damn was the Netflix series good. It is hard to make the Punisher a likable character. He is murdering people, yeah they are bad, but we have to take his word that they deserve to die. The show found a way to make it work and to make us love Frank Castle and also hate him just a bit as well.

28. Ballers
My brother loved Entourage. I tried, but could never really get into it. When I heard about a new show about pro football players and their lifestyle, similar to Entourage, I figured I would not like it. And yet, I loved Ballers. The cast was incredible and the story the show told about the Rock’s journey from struggling financial advisor to eventually owning an NFL team was fantastic.

27. Deadwood
This show was Game of Thrones before GOT came out and set in the wild west. Murder, backstabbing, constant swearing, tons of sex & nudity…seriously, all this show needed was a dragon and it would just be GOT with guns. Is Al Swearengen basically Tywin Lannister? Damn it, now I want to watch this show again.

26. Cowboy Bebop
I challenge you to watch this anime, even if you do not like or have ever seen anime, and not get emotional at the final two episodes. The whole series is only 26 episodes, but each one is fantastic. Some episodes are funny, some are deep, some are sad, but every episode great. Also, the opening theme by The Seatbelts is maybe one of the best opening songs ever.

25. X-Files
This one may be a cheat. I watched just about every episode. It is not like there was on-demand or TiVo back in those days. I know I missed a few here and there because of life stuff when I was young. I remember it being one of the first shows I saw previews for and immediately wanted to watch the first episode. It came out in 1993, crazy to think how long ago that was.

24. Watchmen
Okay, this one is probably another cheat. It was only one season and it seems to be up in the air about there being another season. However, the first season was so incredibly good that it automatically jumps into the list.

23. Daredevil
Charlie Cox is Matt Murdock. I honestly can never see anyone else portraying Daredevil. I hope that Disney+ decides to do another season.

22. Eureka
I still think about some of the stuff from this show. It was silly at times, but it had some fun science stuff, and the characters were so good. I still think about the season two episode where Henry erases Carter’s memories of the alternate future they visited, but does not erase his own memories.

21. Treme
This is the David Simon show that everyone should talk about all the time instead of The Wire. So many great stories that are all sort of interrelated set in the city of New Orleans. I think my favorite story ended up being Big Chief and the relationship with his son, which is weird because at first I did not care for that one. The next one was probably Sonny, who I initially hated. Okay, I also loved the chef’s arc as well. Yeah, I loved all of it.
