Penn State defeated Northwestern tonight. It was their first conference win of the season. They are now 1-10 in the Big Ten. Patrick Chambers is approaching one hundred conference losses since he took over in 2011. That is awful.
I cannot imagine the university keeping him after another abysmal season, but I also cannot fathom who they would hire. I will be honest, I do not pay much attention to college basketball, but what upcoming coach wants to go to a major conference perennial loser with the mission of turning things around?
If you are an awesome assistant coach somewhere, then you are looking for a job at some small, mid-major school. You can make a name for yourself with a run in the tournament. Then you get signed to one of the decent big schools.
I hate hearing the excuses to why Penn State is bad at basketball. I do not know what needs to be done to create a decent program, but they need to figure it out.
