Vacation Recap

I have been on vacation for the past nine days. Before you ask, I did not go anywhere or really do all that much. I worked on some projects around the house.

Everything started out great. Saturday was the protest in Johnstown. I planned on getting a haircut, but since ANTIFA was bringing in three busloads of protesters, everything was closing at noon. Seriously. Some of the stores were boarding up because they were afraid. Walmart closed. All over a damn Facebook rumor. People are stupid. Instead of getting a haircut or getting anything done, I ended up taking the kids to eat and visit Lindsey at work.

Monday we went to the zoo. It was a fantastic day. Payton and Logan had a great time. This was the first time that Logan could actually see them and he was excited, especially when the leopard kept walking toward him.

Tuesday was a great day. I was finally able to get a haircut. It had been since February 22nd. That was the longest it has been between haircuts since I was a little kid.

I tried to get some work done around the house, but Lindsey had to work the first few days, so it was not too easy with the kids. Fortunately on Thursday I was able to get stuff done. I managed to get the playset wood put down, then I removed those stupid clothes line posts.

The big project was cleaning out the shed. The previous owners left us a bunch of stuff and it looks like the owners before them did as well. I sold a couple weed eaters and a push mower. I also ended up with seven large construction bags full of garbage. But the shed is completely cleaned and organized now. I am quite happy.

I finally got the chance to smoke some meat. That is not some euphemism. I smoked a ten pound pork butt. It was my first time doing it and the end result was great, but I made a few mistakes. I knew it would take a long time. I decided to start the process around 9:00 p.m. I should have done it early in the morning and then I could have been around to check the hopper. The pellets ended up not getting into the auger and it caused the flame to go out. I did not notice in the morning that the flame was out and stirred the pellets, which let them start feeding, but without a flame. I then lit it again when I noticed the temp was super low.

The pellets caught fire and the temp jumped way up and I had to open the lid to lower the temperature. I also did not pay attention later and it happened again. Okay, so now I know that I should check the hopper more often, haha. Oh well, the pulled pork turned out well.

On Sunday I was able to take Logan for a haircut. This was his second one and he did okay during the whole thing. He cried a little bit at first, but then he got used to everything and was fine.

It was a good vacation. It would have been nice to get more done around the house, but I spent plenty of time with the kids, so that is definitely a good thing.
