2018 Fantasy Baseball Week 8

Sorry Adam2! I know we were having fun at the beach and you probably did not pay attention nearly as much as I did…but I needed a big win. Granted, he destroyed me on the golf course everyday, so I think this evens out. As you can see, my team was pretty dominant. I wish I could have picked up a win from Gerrit Cole last night, but his bullpen blew the lead.

KOW–Gleyber Torres–KOW

I was nervous about giving up Jose Altuve (more on that in a minute), but Torres stepped up nicely this weekly. He hit five home runs, scored five times, knocked in nine, all while hitting .368 with a .429 OBP. It is always awesome to see a top prospect actually come in and succeed right away. It is also hard to take a chance on a player like this because if they struggle early on, that is a wasted spot on your roster. However, if you drop them, then they heat up, someone else can get them (I am thinking about you Mike Trout).

Around the League

Matt 7 Jason 4
Lindsey 7 Gideon 5
Offord 7 Pat 4
James 6 Dustin 4
Ryan 7 Sean 4

Gleyber Torres was good, but Jose Altuve was a beast this week: 7 runs, 1 HR, 8 RBIs, 3 SBs, .429, .448. All of that helped him beat Jason. Altuve ended up getting hits in 11 straight at-bats. He went from hitting .300 to .330, he will be one of the league leaders in AVG in no time at all. I told you Matt that this would work out for both of us.

Best Move of the Week

I have to give this one to Ryan again. He dropped Julio Teheran and picked up Jack Flaherty of the Cardinals. Flaherty picked up a win against the Pirates and struck out four hitters. Those four Ks helped Ryan win that category and his WHIP most likely dropped enough to help him win that one as well. Ryan also snatched Austin Meadows (he must have grabbed him about a half hour before I tried to that day…ugh). Great job Ryan!

The New Week

The battle of the bloggers: Sean vs. Josh! The showdown that everyone has been waiting for all season (by everyone, I mean Sean and myself….or maybe just me). Lindsey has a tough one against Matt, his team is not nearly as bad as his record says. I feel bad that last week I did not mention that we had a battle of lawyers, sorry Matt & Jason, your objection is noted (HAHAHA, I am so funny!). Offord and James square off, while Ryan looks to continue his winning ways against Dustin. Jason and Adam2 duke it out in that matchup of three vs. four. And finally, Gideon looks to rebound against Pat. Here are the standings:

Lindsey won last week, so we get a song! Parker Posey was in the movie SubUrbia, which had a Sonic Youth song–“Sunday.” Here it is, enjoy!

I always think of Sonic Youth as a typical 90s rock band, but it is crazy when you look up anything about them. They formed in 1981…Thurston Moore was born in 1958. Imagine that for a second, my dad would have probably said something like “ugh, these kids today play terrible music.” But Moore was only a few years younger than him. How weird is that? They grew up listening to the same stuff. Kim Gordon, who was married to Moore and the bassist, was born in 1953…not sure why that is so crazy to me, haha.
