Things That Can Go Away in 2024

The new year has arrived and that means plenty of people out there making resolutions, and most likely already quitting them. How many people were going to diet this year or get back in shape, but have stopped? Maybe you planned to read more books, or volunteer this year…you won’t, but it is fun to pretend.

I do not make resolutions. Why mess with perfection? However, there are things that piss me off in the world, and it would be great if these things would just go away in 2024. Like seriously, just piss off already. I am done with them. Are you ready for a sorta list? No, well then stop reading…but if you want to continue, then just keep reading.

-Groomers/Pedophiles/Jeffrey Epstein–Jesus, yeah I am starting this list off with a bang. And listen, before I say why I am sick of this stuff, you need to know that I am 100% against pedophilia and child molesters, and actual grooming. And I am definitely anti-Epstein.

Groomers are a real thing, but calling everyone out there a groomer is annoying. Same goes for pedophiles. I saw a story on Facebook about people boycotting the new Amy Winehouse biopic because the director is a groomer. I was confused, so I read the story…Sam Taylor-Johnson is married to Aaron Taylor-Johnson (you know, Quicksilver from Age of Ultron). She met him when he starred in a movie she directed. He was 18 and she was 42. There is this weird belief by the internet that she knew him since he was a kid, but both of them have said that is not true. They have been married for over a decade and have kids. I could see if he was claiming that she took advantage of him, but that is not the case. They seem happy. Just let people be.

So yeah, calling everyone who has dated someone younger than themselves a groomer is really weird. These people like to point out that the brain is not fully developed until age 25, so that means anyone younger than 25 is basically a child. This is not correct, or at the very least it is an oversimplification of the neuroscience of the prefrontal cortex development. For one thing, I do not think the brain automatically changes at exactly age 25. Also, it does not mean that people under 25 are completely incapable of making rational decisions. But for some reason, the groomer crowd has now decided that anyone under 25 is basically a child. Like 7 and 24 are exactly the same in their head. I guess I take this a little personal. Lindsey is seven years younger than me. We met when I was 29…she was 22. For those that knew both of us, which one was probably making better, more rational life choices at their respective ages? Definitely not me. Although, a few of you would say not her either since she decided to date me.

Moving on to Epstein…look, I hope anyone that went to his island and did anything illegal receives severe punishment. Unfortunately, it does not seem like that will happen. The flight logs just show people who flew on his plane, which is probably a ton of people. A billionaire businessman giving people free rides in order to build client relationships, is not that crazy. People are expecting names of hundreds of people to be announced, and then these people put in jail. It will not happen that way. Even if they are accused, and they end up being prosecuted, it will probably take years before any of these cases are settled. It is funny, both sides of the political spectrum use Epstein as some kind of cudgel against the other (Trump and Clinton were both friends with him, so that means ALL DEMONCRATS/REPUGLICANS ARE PEDOPHILES). It is just tiresome, I am done with it.

-Woke–There was a time when being woke meant that a person was aware of the injustices against people of color (I am sure there is a better definition). Now though, it is used anytime people dislike something. Marvel changes the Russian spacedog, Cosmo, to a girl? They went woke! A commercial has  a gay couple, the company is woke. Disney has a show on tv about girls…they are woke. The NBA allows players to wear jerseys with their cause, the league has gone woke. It is idiotic. It is usually just racist, sexist assholes saying dumb shit, but it seems to permeate everything. I hate it.

There is a reverse of this that I am also sick of hearing…cringe/problematic. I hope to never read another article about how shows like Friends or Seinfeld are cringe/problematic because they are about a group of white friends, or they make jokes about things that are no longer funny. I am tired of the examination of everything that has ever been created under the current moral lens. I do not care. I still watch those shows or movies.

-Generation Debates–UGHHHH, I am so freakin’ tired of Millennial/Boomer debates, or the new Gen X vs. Gen Z crap. It is dumb. I do not care what young people call things. “The zoomers call hot dogs glizzies, AHHH!!!!” Who gives a shit? We did the same thing when we were young, maybe not with hot dogs, but our generation did not have the internet to help spread this weird new lingo.

-ScreenRant–I used to enjoy ScreenRant articles, but in the last few years the site has become awful. The site just creates terrible clickbait articles about every movie that comes out. For example, in the past month they have like 50 articles about Saltburn. Granted, this is my fault. I see these articles, then I click on them. Or the Facebook algorithm sees that I possed about Saltburn, it knows I read SR articles, so it then floods my feed with more of their posts. I do not want them. I am going to block SR in order to save my sanity.

-Facebook Comments–Speaking of sanity. I need to stop reading Facebook comments. I think some of you noticed my rant recently on Facebook about Penn State fans. If I had one bad habit, it is reading an article, then reading the comments. The comments piss me off, and then I end up being grumpy. Those of you who never read those comments, I feel like you are living a better, more healthy life than me.

Something tells me if I avoid all of these things, then I will probably be a saner person. What things would like to get rid of in 2024?
