Plenty of great things coming in 2024. I always enjoy doing these previews each year, mainly because it gives me an excuse to look up all the stuff coming out this year, but also nice to look back on during the year to remind myself of what is coming up (well for the entertainment stuff, I mean, I should know the family stuff).
MOVIES
This is an interesting year for movies. There is only one MCU movie coming out. It feels like there are less superhero movies than in previous years (look, I love them as much as the next person, but it feels like the market has become a bit saturated). Also, can there be more kids movies throughout the year? If they released a kids movie every few weeks, especially during breaks, I bet people would go to them. Over Christmas break, I would have taken the kids to a movie or two. Summer break…it would be great to go every week. Anyways, here are the movies I am looking forward to:
–Dune: Part 2 (March 1)–I loved the first one, and cannot wait to see the conclusion.
–Mickey 17 (March 29–not sure though)–the new film from Bong Joon-ho. Sci-fi movie with Robert Pattinson.
–Civil War (April 26)–Alex Garland’s new movie about…well I think you can figure it out.
–Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (May 24)–A Fury Road prequel? Yeah, I am down for it.
–Inside Out 2 (June 14)–the kids are excited for this one, they liked the first one.
–The Bikeriders (June 21)–A new movie from Jeff Nichols. I liked some of his movies. This is definitely a movie I will watch on streaming (unless I hear insanely great things, OR someone wants to go see it).
–Deadpool 3 (July 26)–Deadpool and Wolverine together? I am down!
–Joker: Folie à Deux (October 4)–I don’t know. I liked the first one, but I am not sure we needed another one.
–Gladiator 2 (November 22)–This is probably the most intriguing movie of the year. It feels like a fake movie, like something they would make a fake trailer for an SNL skit or something. But, I have this weird feeling that it will be good. OR it will be the worst movie ever. Either way, I am going to see it.
–The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim (December 13)–Not sure if this is going to be in theaters or not, but I am ready for a new LOTR movie, even if it is animated.
–Mufasa: The Lion King (December 20)–I am not excited about this at all. But I am sure the kids will want to see it…could this be our New Year’s Day movie?
TV SHOWS
There are so many shows that I watch. I am excited for some of the MCU shows (Echo, Ironheart, and Daredevil: Born Again). We should get the Star Wars show called The Acolyte this year, which has me pumped (I believe it is set between the end of the High Republic and sometime before the events of the prequels). There is the Batman show: The Penguin which should be good with Colin Farrell. I have high hopes for True Detective: Night Country and want to check out Shogun. I will give Fallout a try when it comes out, even though I have never played the game (I know, you are shocked). I enjoyed the first season of Animal Control, and will be tuning into the second season, as well as whatever season of The Rookie we are up to now. Then there are the other returning shows like Last Week Tonight, The Bear, House of the Dragon, Rings of Power, Strange New World, and probably a hundred other shows I am forgetting.
FAMILY STUFF
Something tells me that 2024 will be another big year for the Croyle Family. Logan is going to try basketball. Both kids have swim classes: Payton will actually start learning technique and different strokes, while Logan…well we just hope he will stop screaming when he goes in the water. Payton is doing softball again, while Logan will be in t-ball. I am coaching both again (head coach of t-ball, not sure about softball yet). There is a cool ninja class that Logan will try as well. Payton has her dance recital, and I am guessing she and I will go to the Someone Special Dance again. I would imagine we hit up Myrtle Beach at some point, my wife cannot go a year without the beach…
But the big family news this year is that we are going to Disney! That was our big Christmas gift to the kids this year. Last time we went, Logan was just a little guy, but now he is practically an old man, so he should enjoy it more, and maybe remember it.
I am also looking forward to having more parties, enjoying time with friends and family, and maybe whatever adventures we can get into this year.
BOOKS
I am very excited for a few books this year. Toward the end of 2024, the fifth Stormlight Archive book should come out. I may listen to the last book before it comes out to help refresh my memory. I saw that Dennis E. Taylor should have a new Bobiverse book this year, and Alecto the Ninth should be coming out this year (or maybe 2025). I hope Tamsyn Muir isn’t turning into GRRM or Patrick Rothfus. On top of those books, we also have phase three of The High Republic.
This might be the year I reread a few books. I want to listen to ASOIAF again, and honestly I would love to listen to the Dark Tower for like the fourth time.
MUSIC
I have enjoyed listening to new music this past year. Aside from listening to more new stuff, I want to post more music stuff. I like doing the posts about the music that helped shaped my life. So for those of you that enjoyed Jammin’ With Josh…it is coming back! I would also like to go to a concert. Maybe Lindsey and I can find a fun show to go see.
