Decades Project: 1950s Movie–Singin’ in the Rain

I watched this movie in 8th grade during English class. I cannot remember why Mr. Porter had us watch this movie, but he did. I tried to mock the movie and act like it was stupid, but you know what? I enjoyed it. Actually, if I remember correctly, I told Mr. Porter at the end that it was a pretty good movie.

If you have never seen it, I highly recommend. I believe it ended up at #5 on the updated AFI list of top movies, and was chosen as the best musical. The movie is about the end of the silent film era, and as the stars transition into “talkies” it is discovered that one of the starlets has an annoying voice, so the studio has to dub her voice with another actress, and…well hijinx ensue. Just watch it, you will not be disappointed.

Plus you get the classic Gene Kelly performance of “Singin’ in the Rain”…
