Fixing Star Wars

I swear I have written at least three or four posts about fixing Star Wars. The sequel trilogy was a mess. The shows are up and down. The Mandalorian and Grogu was a massive flop…it is just sad to see how badly things are going with this franchise. Fortunately for Disney, I have the solutions!!!

Well, maybe some suggestions.

First of all…we need to stop with chasing nostalgia. It is time to reboot Star Wars. I am not saying you remake the original trilogy, but I think the next movies need a time skip. Like 200 years past the Rise of Skywalker. I know they want the next trilogy to be about Rey and whatever her adventures are after defeating Palpatine (sorry for the spoiler…okay, no I’m not), but I think it is time to leave the Skywalkers and Emperor Palpatine in the past. And you cannot go backwards because the temptation to connect everything to those stories will be there (oh my god, this character is Darth Tenebrous, he was Plagueis’ master! or whatever else they would try to reference).

So we go to the future. And if you are insistent on having Daisy Ridley in the movie, fine. Have her be a Force ghost, or a Holocron teacher who helps guide our next hero. You do not even have to invalidate the last movie. During the title crawl it can say that Rey formed a new Jedi Order (this way the Jedi are not tied to any old practices or teachings, they can be whatever you want them to be), and the Galactic Republic has had 200 years of peace, stability, and prosperity. Whatever, something nice. Then you end it with, but unbeknownst to the Republic and the Jedi, a threat was coming from outside the galaxy…and instead of a giant Star Destroyer, you have a shot of some kind of organic ship. Some of you may know where I am going…

Yuuzhan Vong!

Some fans love the Yuuzhan Vong stories from Legends, others hated it. They are a good enemy. I am sure in the hands of a good writer, you could make them a formidable foe. In my head, I am seeing the opening shot of their ship, and I think you need to take inspiration from Oumuamua (the large rock that passed through our solar system). You have the happening scene be the YV attacking some small Outer Rim planet. Maybe a Jedi is there, and they are easily defeated (look, I am not the writer here, Disney can figure the details out).

You can use the old Legends story as a template. Hell, this does not even have to be a trilogy. Maybe it is seven movies, or twelve. Who cares. But the aim needs to be to attract a new generation. One of the reasons the sequel trilogy failed is because they did not give Rey, Poe, Finn, and the others room to grow, instead they had to constantly remind us of the original trilogy characters. This time, all new heroes and villains.

Yes, this will anger the older generation of fans…but honestly, they are already angry about everything. Even if Disney somehow made new Star Wars movies exactly like the Thrawn Trilogy, there would be thing that those fans would nitpick over. So just forget them. Focus on bringing Star Wars to a new generation. Capture what made the original resonate, and try to create something that will have that effect today.

So there you go Disney, please take my recommendations (you never seem to listen to me, and it definitely shows).
