Eventful Two Days

It has been a crazy couple of days for me. I woke up at my normal time for work on Sunday (5:30 a.m.) and got ready. I was driving to work like normal, when I saw a house on fire. There was a firetruck there, so things looked under control. I did not see that the road was closed and almost smashed into barrier.

You would think they would have a blinking light on the damn thing in order to alert drivers, who may be tired and mesmerized by a fire. Anyways, I slammed on the brakes and slid right up to the damn thing. I had to back up and go down a few side streets to get to work. No big deal.

Obviously this would be a major thing and I would definitely tell everyone about seeing a house on fire, right? Yeah, I never even mentioned it (until I saw the news story about it and remembered seeing it). What could have happened that caused me to forget?

Well, when I opened the restaurant (if you do not know, I work in a restaurant), I could hear running water. I knew immediately what had happened. Before I could even take a step, I could see the reflection of water on the floor. You see, the day before a hose broke on a fancy oven (I cannot explain this thing…it is fancy). I was able to hook the hose back up and tighten the clamp. Well….the clamp must not have held and I walked into a giant mess. I seriously considered calling my boss and saying that I had COVID and could not come into work.

Alas, I did not do that. I ran back, shut the water off, then got to work cleaning it up. With the help of some employees and an amazing carpet cleaner, we were able to open up by 10:30! Yeah, unfortunately we had like no staff since we were closed most of the morning. We ended up getting crushed. It was not fun. The crazy thing was the restaurant was super busy, but then the snow came and it completely died.

The storm hit and was so bad that we ended up closing the restaurant at 7:00. Well not me, the other people that work after me. I came home, shoveled the driveway, then watched the Steelers lose. I woke up against at 5:30 and went into work.

Yeah, I had to work during a major snowstorm. It was crazy slow. I called practically everyone off and we only had  like three or four customers for our entire breakfast. I went out twice during the day to shovel snow, It sucked! Then I came home and shoveled more snow (at least Payton helped me).

A fun two days…I need a nice peaceful day off.
