2020 Democratic Primary: Cory Booker

Who: Cory Booker, Senator from New Jersey

Slogan: “Together, America, We Will Rise”

Positive: Very optimistic candidate, running on a campaign of love and hope. He appeals to young people and African-American voters. He also has come out with a strong gun-control proposal. Booker is well liked by the Establishment portion of the party.

Negative: Cory Booker is not liked by the Left. He has ties to Wall Street and once criticized Obama for his attacks on private equity. I wonder if his positive message and good vibe attitude will scare off voters who want someone who is willing to stand up to Trump.

My Thoughts: First of all, his logo is very blasé. It looks like something someone would make if they were running for city council in Ebensburg. I expect better from someone like Booker. I feel like Cory Booker has been preparing to run for years now. I remember the first time I saw him on television, I think it was right after he was elected as mayor of Newark, my initial thought was “this guy will be president someday.” I wonder if things had went differently in 2016 (even if a Republican other than Trump had won), would Booker be the candidate for that time?

Odds: 33/1
Booker has a 2.9% chance at winning the nomination. I think we need to see some of that fire and determination that we saw during some of the Senate hearings (or during his gun speech) and that could help get his numbers back up.
