2020 Democratic Primary: John Hickenlooper

Who: John Hickenlooper, former Governor of Colorado

Slogan: “Stand Tall”

Positive: Interesting life story. Started out as a geologist, but after being laid off he and some partners created a successful brewpub in Denver. He ran for mayor of Denver and eventually became the governor of the state. He talks about his experiences as a small business owner and how they help shape his economic message. Also, proven record at being able to work with political rivals and opposition party.

Negative: His name is too long. Would Hickenlooper be the longest last name of a president ever? Yes, yes it would. I am not sure America is ready for that. I am not sure he is progressive enough for the Democratic party at this moment.

My Thoughts: I like Hickenlooper, he seems like a good guy. For my restaurant management friends out there, he talks about how his experience in the restaurant industry helps him deal with politicians (taking the HEAT). I think he should look at running for Senate against Cory Gardner. His logo is cool, it reminds us that he is from Colorado and that the state is definitely purple. At least I think that is dark purple and not black. I could be color blind.

Odds: 80/1
You would think the governor of the state that legalized marijuana would poll a bit better than he is and would have better odds than 1.2%, but maybe the voters know about his reticence over the legalization and how he only changed his mind after he saw that it worked in his state. Maybe progressives just do not trust him.
