The Suicide Squad

You ever watch a movie and think it is funny and enjoyable but then later when you think about it, you cannot remember anything about it? That is how I feel about The Suicide Squad. I laughed a bunch and I enjoyed watching the movie, but it was not remarkable and fairly forgettable.

James Gunn did a good job with the premise. He made it darker and edgier than Guardians of the Galaxy, but you could definitely see this was just the DCEU version of the GotG. There were plenty of jokes that were basically the same (who is Milton is basically just why is Gamora).

I did enjoy Starro. And the beginning. The setup of having the first team introduced and then being slaughtered was hilarious. Also, King Shark was fantastic.

Back to Starro…I loved when Starro showed up in JLA (and Sandman–Daniel version, not Morpheus had to help them save the day), so seeing the Suicide Squad take down the alien was cool. I always enjoy the idea of an alien menace that just keeps growing stronger as they take over the people.

So what did you think of it?

  1. I didn’t see Suicide Squad because I have the same reaction you had to it, to the Guardians movies. They make me laugh the first time, but when I think back, there wasn’t much to them but gags. I look back on the dance off with Ronan, and wonder how it took more than one watch for me to hate it.

The exception to this is Baby Groot, who I unconditionally love forever.

    1. I have rewatched Guardians 2 a bunch, I think it definitely trumps the first one (although, the prison breakout scene is one of my faves from the MCU). I feel like the GotG movies have a little more emotion. Groot’s sacrifice, Drax’s pain, etc…suicide squad lacks any of that to make me want to see it again.

And since you are here…you are doing fantasy football, right?
