Decades Project: 1940s Music–Only Forever

I have always enjoyed Bing Crosby songs. I mean, how couldn’t you? His Christmas songs are a must-listen every year. This song reminds me of the old Warner Bros. cartoon with Porky Pig, where there is a crooner rooster (I think he is supposed to be Frank Sinatra), and the hens are following him around, so Porky has to get another rooster (this one is Bing Crosby), and they have a croon off, which causes the hens to lay a ton of eggs. Thinking back on it, the episode was probably considered somewhat risqué back in those days.

Also, Bing Crosby always reminds me of the old web series Mr. Wong*…which is probably the least appropriate thing ever, but when I was in college, this was hilarious.

Also, Family Guy had a great Bing Crosby joke about using oranges to beat a child because they do not leave bruises. Not sure how true the child abuse stuff was against Crosby, I mean, most parents back in that time period smacked their kids. Talk to some older folks and they will say that their parents would cuff them across the mouth for talking back. Definitely a different time, glad we have learned from the past.

*Mr.Wong was an intentionally offensive web-series back in the early 2000s. I believe it was created by some of the writers of South Park. It was highly criticized back then for being offensive, particularly in the way they portrayed Wong. I feel like this was a show where the writers were testing the ground for ideas on how to satirize tough subjects like racism, that eventually would be tackled on South Park
