Game of Thrones: The Last of the Starks

I will start every one of these posts off with this warning about spoilers. There will be plenty of spoilers. Seriously, if you have not watched the episode, do not read this post. I will also be mentioning stuff from the books. These are not straight up recaps of episodes, nor are they reviews. I will just mention the stuff I liked/disliked and probably give some opinions about what could happen next.

I think the first three-fourths of the episode was one of the better episodes we have seen. I am not part of the contingent that hated the final quarter. I thought it was perfectly fine, maybe a little rushed, but whatever, we only have a few episodes left at this point.

-The opening was fantastic. Seeing all of the dead and saying goodbye to them, particularly Jorah. Damn though, House Mormont is in disarray.

-The feast and celebration was a nice touch. I enjoyed the drinking game and Tormund getting rebuffed by Brienne. And there was much rejoicing when she and Jaime finally had their moment.

-Naturally Jon tells his sisters the truth immediately after promising Daenerys that he would not (actually she ordered him not to tell). We have seen the cracks in Dany since last season (maybe earlier). She has bouts of rage and does not like to listen to her advisors. That made the conversation between Varys and Tyrion even cooler. They have seen those cracks too. And now they know there is another option.

-At least Tyrion suggested co-ruling, but Varys is probably right, Daenerys does not want to share the throne.

-The saddest moment was definitely seeing Jon just give Ghost to Tormund and not even say goodbye to the direwolf.

-I think Sansa is looking like a strong candidate to rule the Seven Kingdoms at this point. She seems to be the only one thinking things through.

-I was pretty shocked when Rhaegal took that arrow to the throat and then dies. I did not expect that to happen. Cersei was smart to have Qyburn build those scorpions.

-Daenerys makes some poor decisions. First, she sails to Dragonstone without the bulk of her army. Second, she does not use her dragon to at least scout ahead to see if there is a fleet of ships waiting for them. Third, she has Euron dead in her sights, but does not fire at him, nor does she circle around the ships for a rear attack. Then when she learns that Cersei has Missandei, she does not send a message or something, instead she takes what is left of her army and marches at King’s Landing.

-Missandei’s death was not nearly as sad or shocking as the writers probably hoped. I was never really invested in the Grey Worm/Missandei relationship.

So, here are my predictions for the next episode…

-Grey Worm battles FrankenMountain. I think it was fairly obvious after we saw Grey Worm during the Battle of Winterfell wielding that spear…he reminded me of the Red Viper. Maybe the fight will be fairly close, but then FrankenMountain will have a moment where he is about to kill Grey Worm and then the Hound will show up and between the two of them, they will finally bring down the monster. OR reverse that. Grey Worm saves the Hound from certain death and together they can defeat Ser Robert Strong.

-Euron dies. And it will be one of the most gruesome deaths since Prince Oberyn. He will begin questioning Cersei about the baby, like how Tyrion could know about it. He will either strike her or go to strike her and she will call for Gregor Clegane. I foresee him ripping Euron’s jaw right off. Like Cersei says “Ser Gregor, silence him.” And then we all vomit when Euron’s mouth is pulled straight off.

Look, there have been at least two moments where Cersei has stopped Ser Gregor from moving towards Euron when he approaches. I think it is time she allowed her pet monster to finish the pirate.

-Jon and the army are not going to make it to King’s Landing in time to save Daenerys from being crushed by the Golden Company. I think Yara will show up with the Dornish army. At least I think the Dornish army is still a thing, right?

Only two more episodes to go…
