Captain America: Brave New World

I decided to go see Captain America: Brave New World tonight, but instead of going by myself…I took the kids! What a great idea. They have seen a few Marvel movies, but not all of them, which led to them asking 232,532 questions. But other than that, they both liked it. I enjoyed it as well, but I could definitely see it being confusing if you have not watched The Falcon and the Winter Soldier or The Eternals. 

Without spoiling anything, I want to point out one of the things I love about the MCU: the way the movies continue to build on things in-universe. For example, Sam’s suit has new wings, they are reinforced with Vibranium. He has the same type of helmet that the Avengers wore in Endgame, and his targeting system looks very similar to Iron Man’s. The MCU does this so well. 

Okay, now onto my thoughts which have SPOILERS!

-I enjoyed how Sterns was the bad guy. That was one of those plot threads that I figured would never go anywhere, but great job bringing him back. His plan actually made sense. Sometimes the villain’s plan is a little silly.

-Harrison Ford was great as President Thaddeus Ross. He was a great choice to replace William Hurt. 

-The fight scenes felt unique. Sam is not Steve, so they do not fight the same. The fighter jet battle was cool, but the way he fought Red Hulk was cool. I kept expecting Isaiah Bradley to show up (I figured Ruth would release him to help stop Red Hulk) and together they would take down Red Hulk. But nope, Sam had to defeat him on his own, and in his way. His best skill? His advice as a counselor. Well done Sam.

-Okay, I feel like Giancarlo Esposito was wasted a little bit. They featured him a good bit in the trailers, but then he turns out to be a minor villain (although I wonder if they are setting him up for a prison escape and revenge arc). 

-Payton thought Torres was really funny. I agree with her. I like him as the new Falcon. 

-I thought Ruth was a cool character. I like the idea of other Widows out there, free from the Red Room, and using their skills. 

-A big part of the movie is the Celestial from The Eternals, and how the nations of the world will deal with this giant island/head/arm. Apparently it has adamantium, and some other technology that the nations are trying to claim. I guess fans complained enough about that Celestial, and Marvel finally answered them.

-Okay, so I guess the end credit scene was setting up Avengers: Secret Wars. What happens when Sam and his Avengers have to save the world from other superheroes.
