Unemployment Update
It’s been two weeks since I found myself in the unemployment line. A lot of you have checked in, asked questions, or just straight-up wondered what the heck I’m going to do next, so I figured I’d share a little update. Before I get into what’s coming, here’s a quick rundown of what I’ve been up to lately.
Aside from thinking about the next chapter of life, it’s actually been a pretty busy (and fun) couple of weeks. Baseball and softball season are ramping up, which means tryouts, drafts, and lots of time at the fields. Logan had his Single-A tryouts and draft — a team I’ll be coaching — and Payton’s 8U draft happened too… also a team I’ll be coaching. Both kids are moving up a level as well (AA for Logan, 10U for Payton), and I offered to help out as an assistant for those teams. Assistant being the key word here — I’m not that crazy.
That said, I also started learning some of the league treasurer stuff since I’m the treasurer-elect. So… maybe I am a little crazy.
This past weekend we had a softball clinic. I helped out while Payton participated and did really well at most of the stations, which was fun to watch.
We also wrapped up a couple of winter sports. Logan’s basketball season ended with a team party, and wrestling wrapped up last week with picture day. His final tournament of the year was a rough one, and we decided it made more sense to take a break rather than push into postseason tournaments. I think he needed it.
We managed to squeeze in some family fun too. Last Monday we took the kids snow tubing at Seven Springs. We hadn’t been in a few years, but Logan was finally tall enough to go this time, which made it even better. Both kids had a blast. The weather was warm enough that we ditched some layers — not tropical, but warm enough to retire a bit of the arctic gear.
In between all of that, there were lots of days running Logan and Payton to practices and activities, plus a baseball/softball equipment shopping trip. I grabbed drinks with a few friends, watched some movies, and spent way too much time watching Logan play NBA 2K26 (with occasional breaks for Madden).
This past Saturday, I took Logan to his first college basketball game at St. Francis. The Red Flash didn’t get the win, but it was still a cool experience — especially since it was senior night and likely their final home game as a Division I program before moving to D3 next year.
And somewhere in the middle of all that chaos, I’ve been focused on what comes next. I’m not going to another company. I’m taking a much bigger swing than that.
I’m buying a restaurant.
