Halloween 2024

Halloween has become a busy time. Funny how things change. In my early 20s, it was fun to go out to bars and be a typical dude out on the town. Then there came the time where I was dating Lindsey (or married), but we did not have kids. Neither of us really wanted to get dressed up and go out, so we never really did much. I think a few years I worked so the managers with kids could do their thing. I know, such a nice guy!

Then we had Payton, and obviously you have to go trick-or-treating! The first year she was a lobster and we were chefs. There was usually a daycare costume parade, and neighborhood trick-or-treating. Now though, damn…Halloween feels like the busiest time of year. The school has a costume parade, there are trunk-or-treats (Payton’s dance studio does a nice one), neighborhood trick-or-treating, friends parties, carving pumpkins, and we have a fun Halloween party every year. At least we get our money’s worth out of their costumes.

This year Payton went as…Krystal Bailey from Rainbow High. She is obsessed at the moment. I don’t know what it is. Logan was Obi-Wan Kenobi, while I was Anakin. We have had a few epic lightsaber battles in our costumes.

Our Halloween party was fantastic. I made pumpkin chili, meatball sliders, Mummy hot dogs, spooky pizzas, and Lindsey made some charcuterie boards. The kids played some games outside (toilet paper mummy races, and a game where they had to eat a hanging donut). The adults did fun adult stuff, mostly sitting around talking and maybe drinking an adult beverage.

It has been a fun, busy season…I look forward to some rest!
