Know Your President: Week Twelve

Party: Democratic

Fact One: This president did not want to have his business interests become a conflict of interest during his presidency, so he turned over the leadership of the business to trustees. Ethics were important to this president.

Fact Two: He created the Department of Education. People still debate whether or not it is totally needed.

Fact Three: This president got Israel and Egypt to sign a peace treaty. This treaty was tremendously important for the Middle East since Egypt became the first Arab country to recognize Israel’s right to exist.

Fact Four: This president and his administration helped transition Southern Rhodesia to Zimbabwe. The president focused more on sub-Saharan Africa and reestablishing black rule more than prior presidents.

Fact Five: This president was actually ahead of his time. He supported the decriminalization of cannabis, he was the first president to address gay rights, and he sought to prevent banks from denying loans to poor communities.
