Small Home Projects

I have been working on a few things around the house. Lindsey always has projects for me. Sometimes they are smaller things, but other times they are fairly grand. She is always thinking of things she wants to be completed.

I cleaned the gutters out, which was disgusting and a pain in the ass. There were a few outside things I have wanted to fix. In the front yard I removed a ring of pavers that had a flower planter. I used some of the pavers to build the fire pit and never got around to removing the rest of them. The other day I removed them, put down some topsoil and planted grass. Then I decided to put a ring around two of the trees in the front yard. In the spring I will put mulch around the trees.

I also got rid of the stone fire pit in the backyard that is near the shed. I put down topsoil and planted more grass. Lindsey used the stones near the fence. She took the bricks out of the rock area and replaced them with stone. She plans on shortening the area and planting grass as well. My final thing outside was taking some huge pavers we had and putting them in front of the shed. Hopefully that blocks the hole from the damn groundhog.

The big project though was the table. Lindsey bought a table for the sun room. It is a small picnic table, and it came plain. We bought it that way with the plan to stain the top and paint the legs. I set up an area in the garage and got started last week. I stained the table-top and benches with a blue stain. I also painted the legs white. I did three coats of stain, then put on a stain conditioner. After that, I used polyurethane to give it a layer of protection. It was not a difficult job, but it took some time because you have to allow time for the stain to dry and completely set into the wood. I finally finished everything yesterday and put the table together. I think it came out very well. Not going to lie, I am proud of this one.
