Payton’s Room: Update #2

It has been over a month since my last update on the room. Things stalled out since the last update, since baseball/softball started, and we got another dog. But, Lindsey and I are on vacation this week, and I have spent 95% of my time working on all of these household projects. I think in the last post I ended on step five (painting the closet walls). 

Step 6: With the closet walls done, I was able to install the new light. It was a bit of a pain, since I went with a longer LED, it was hard to maneuver the light once it was wired. After much cursing, the light clicked into place, and everything worked. Since I am super fancy, I also replaced the old light switch with a new one. 

 

Step Seven: I decided to try a skim coat on the accent wall. If it came out okay, I would do the rest of the walls. Once I sanded the wall, it was nice and smooth, and it was settled. I would do the remaining walls. I did those before vacation, and just had to sand them. 
Step Acht: The walls were done, which seemed like a good time to clean everything up. I had like all of my tools in the room. I removed them, and cleaned all the dust from them. Then I completely cleared the room. Next I used the shop-vac to clear away the dust from the floor and walls. Once that was done, I wiped the walls and floor down to get any remaining dust. Then I went over it again with the shop-vac. With the room completely clear, and the walls ready, it was time to buy paint.
Step IX: Payton picked out some color samples, we went to Lowe’s and looked at a few others. Lindsey gave her opinion, but in the end, one of the first ones Payton picked ended up being the final choice (it was a consensus between the three of us). The color is Lotus Flower. I did two coats, then a third coat on the one wall (not sure why, but it felt like it needed another coat). I have to say, the walls turned out great.
Step 𒌋: Installed the heater covers, which is always a pain in the ass since the baseboard heaters were installed into the drywall, then plastered around. I have to cut the wall, then pull them out a little. It is an ordeal. 
Step 11: Put in a new light! Payton picked out a light that can change colors, and is able to connect to Alexa. The amount of color options on this thing is amazing. Want to do a Steelers theme? Go for it. Christmas? There are a few. Feeling a little punk? This light has you covered.
