Friday Five–Flags of the World

I love flags of different countries. But I am also sort of picky. I respect some of the traditional flags that are iconic (France, Germany, Ireland), and come on, who doesn’t love the United States, Canadian, or British flag? I could not settle on just five favorites, so I had to go with ten. I know, I love to cheat on these lists…

10-Cyprus

I like a white flag, helps the outline of the island really pop out.

9-Kyrgystan

The opening of a yurt, plus the red/yellow…just gives this flag a very unique look.

8-Guyana

This is what Guyana looks like in your head, right? Like you associate those colors with the country, and it just feels right. Good job Whitney Smith!

7-Seychelles

There is a lot going on here, but it works. Also, a very modern flag. If I remember correctly, the tiny island nation had a flag that was very similar to Australia’s, but changed it a few times in the 20th century, but finally adopted his one in the 90s.

6-Trinidad and Tobago

I love the colors. And the diagonal black stripe.

5-Saint Lucia

Love triangles! Love the colors! If you are a small island country, be unique.

4-Japan

Iconic. I love the plain white with the red circle. Bangladesh has a similar design, but the colors are terrible. This works so well together.

3-North Macedonia

Obviously I have a thing for red and yellow. I love the sunburst. Fun fact, they use this flag because the previous flag pissed off the Greeks (I suggest reading all about it)

2-Jamaica

Combining all the things I love into one flag: excellent color scheme, triangles, diagonals…this flag has it all. What could possibly top Jamaica???

1-Albania

The double-headed eagle is just such a cool image, especially with the black and red. I know I give Albania some shit every once in awhile on this blog, but they definitely know how to do a flag.
