Movie Day!

I was off today, so I decided to take the kids to the movies to see the new Disney film, Wish. They both loved it. Logan was cracking up over the talking goat. Payton liked Asha and some of the songs. She also thought the talking goat was funny. I thought it was a good movie. Chris Pine is fantastic as Magnifico. The movie has a very cool Carl Sagan vibe (“we are all made of star stuff”).

There were a bunch of cool Disney references, such as when Magnifico destroys some wishes, he references Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, and one of the princess movies. This movie also feels like the origin story of the Fairy Godmother, but I think it would have worked better if at the end, Asha receives the wand and tries to use a saying to control the magic, but it does not work, then says something like “I will need to work on that” (make it sound close to bippity boppity boo). Whatever, just an idea.

Switching gears a bit.

I also watched Blue Beetle. Yikes. It had some great moments, as well as some terrible parts. There were funny scenes, and quality performances. The story was fairly generic. It felt like the first Ant-Man movie, but with Mexican people, and a female villain. Also, not a fan of the OMAC being like a mech suit. I enjoyed the Greg Rucka run of OMAC (leading up to Infinite Crisis), where the OMACs were a nanotech virus, and the suit covered people from the inside out. They always felt like a tech version of the Symbiote from Marvel.

I would not mind a sequel to this movie, but I doubt that will happen. I thought George Lopez and Xolo Maridueña were great together. I would like to meet Ted Kord, and actually see him in his old Blue Beetle outfit. But who knows if that will happen now since this movie did poorly at the box office, and Warner Bros. has zero clue what they are doing with the DCEU.
