2021 Fantasy Baseball Week 1

The first week of the season is under wraps and it feels good to have a mostly normal season happening. Last year was fun since it was short, but it was also weird with COVID outbreaks knocking players out for long stretches (or whole teams). Yeah, I realize that is a minor thing to complain about during a pandemic…

Naturally the numbers are inflated a bit because the first week includes the games from Opening Day until the following Sunday (Opening Day was Thursday, so it would be silly to have half a week). I am quite pleased with my performance. The big move for me was trading Giancarlo Stanton & Alex Reyes for Gerrit Cole. Yeah, that paid off for me quite well. As you can see, my pitching was dominant. My hitting had the power, but lacked any kind of average early in the week.

Fantasy Stud
I thought for sure I was winning the award this week for Byron Buxton’s monster performance: five runs, three home runs (yeah, I did not start Buxton the first game, then he was not starting a game, but went in and hit a home run), six RBIs, with a .526 AVG and .571 OBP. But that was nothing compared to Ronald Acuña. Ryan could have probably won his week with just Ronald’s numbers: 10 runs/4 HRs/8 RBIs/3 SBs/.577/.586. Damn, Bryce Harper was right to correct that fan who could not pronounce Acuña.

The League
Sean 8 Matt 3–isn’t JD Martinez like 72 years old? He has 16 RBIs already, insanity
Adam2 7 James 4–Jeff McNeil was totally worth a keeper…that .077 batting average is really helping
Jason 8 Dustin 4–Jason, how did you win with five home runs in an extended week? FIVE HRs???
Ryan 9 Pat 2–Pat had 129 strikeouts, that is a lot. James and I were the only other teams with 100+, and Pat still had us beat by a bit.

Next Up
This week I take on Sean, who is ahead of me in the standings. Always fun since this is the battle of the bloggers. Since I miss posting music videos when Lindsey would win (not sure why I made up that fun bit, but whatever…I make the rules), I will instead post a music video when I win and it will be something that reminds me of the person I beat.

I am like 99.2% sure that Gideon’s ringtone when we lived together was this song. If it was not this song, then it was another Coldplay song from that album.
