The Future of the MCU

Since Spider-Man: Far From Home is over that means the Infinity Saga and Phase 3 of the MCU is complete. Where does the MCU go from here? When will Phase 4 start? What will the next big overarching story be? Will there be a new big villain? So many questions! And naturally…I HAVE IDEAS! But first, lets review what we know is coming up.

Apparently Angelina Jolie is in talks for the role of Sersi

The Eternals–not really sure when this is coming out. Also not really sure how they will make this one work. Last I heard, the movie would focus on Sersi, who spends her time among humans and Ikaris, who is powered by cosmic energy. No idea about anything else.

Shang-Chi–After the success of Black Panther, Marvel was not afraid to go forward with a non-white superhero. This would be their first Asian-led film. From what I read somewhere, they intend to use mostly Asian actors for the movie.

Those are the two origin films. We have a martial arts expert and some cosmic god-like individuals who have been on Earth for a very long time. Aside from those two movies, there are tons of sequels coming up…

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Black Panther 2
Doctor Strange 2
Captain Marvel 2
Spider-Man 3
Thor 4 (Possibly?)
Ant-Man 3

There is also the Black Widow movie, which is apparently a prequel/origin story. Something tells me that this origin will have something to do with whatever the big picture story is for this saga of the MCU.

Personally, I think the introduction of the Fantastic Four would be perfect and they could make Galactus the big threat. Also, they could bring Dr. Doom into the mix at some point in the next Black Panther movie. As rulers of nations, the two have come against each other before (I believe Doom tried to invade Wakanda).

I have no clue how they would bring the X-Men or mutants into the world. They could try to modernize them, maybe use the Blip/Snap as an excuse as to why they exist now (gamma radiation?). They could just have them from another Earth, but that also seems a little off. They could be hiding (but then it makes no sense that they would not try to help during…well everything that has happened).

So who are the villain options out there? I already mentioned Galactus. I think he is the best option (and seriously, my idea for how to introduce him and the FF is perfect, call me Kevin!).

I think they could update Kang so that his suit is more like Iron Man’s, but just with a purple/green scheme and maybe way more advanced

Next up we have Kang the Conqueror. I actually have a pretty cool idea for how to introduce him as well. I think you have him be from one of the alternate timelines, the one where Loki has the Tesseract, maybe in that timeline, Thanos wins. Earth is this bleak place that never recovers from Thanos. Kang learns of the Avengers and what they did and he vows revenge. Maybe something happens and he ends up not going to the right time and he ends up facing off against the new, post-Endgame Avengers. Here is my cool thought though, have him be a descendant of Tony Stark. Find an actor that looks like Robert Downey Jr. (Billy from Stranger Things would be great for it). Imagine the moment he removes his helmet and Hulk, Hawkeye, Spider-Man see a young Tony looking back at them? I think it would be pretty cool.

Another FF villain that would be cool is Annihilus. I think he looks great and could end up being extremely menacing on film. I have no clue how you make that character work though. Maybe he is someone the Guardians come across.

Or maybe they do not need an actual villain. Maybe the theme for these next movies is that the Earth is going to change. Think about it. The Kree & Skrulls know about Earth. Thor and the Guardians are aliens. The planet has seen incredible technology and it would be crazy to think that people would not be using that tech.

Maybe they use a more internal threat. A war between Latveria and Wakanda…but the United States is allied with Doom and Latveria, but the Avengers are with Black Panther. We saw this idea in Civil War, but it could be explored more fully. It would be interesting to see how Captain Marvel would behave in that situation. Would she push her team to fight against an ally of the USA?

There are so many possibilities!
