Decades Project: 2000s Movie–Hard Candy

I do not remember how or why I decided to buy this movie. I probably saw it in the new releases at Best Buy, and decided to give it a chance. I am glad I did, as it was an incredible movie. It came out on DVD a few months after Elliot Page was in X-Men: The Last Stand. Maybe Wizard mentioned Hard Candy as his first big role, so when I saw it for sale (the movie released in theaters in 2005, but back in those days it took forever for movies to come out on DVD), I most likely went “oooh, I have heard of that movie, I need to buy it!” I was weird back then. Okay, weirder.

So for those of you who have never seen it, the movie is about a 14-year old girl, who at the beginning of the movie is meeting an older guy she has been talking to on the internet. She goes back to the guy’s place, and then reveals her true intention. The movie flips the idea of who is the hunter and who is the prey around a little bit.

Random aside, the movie was criticized back in 2005 because of the torture, which people said was just too dark considering what was happening in Abu Ghraib. I feel like if this movie came out now, it would be viewed as a how-to-guide for dealing with child predators.

Interesting fact, this was the first movie I ever wrote about on this blog. A 68-word post…can you imagine me saying so little nowadays? Most of you probably wish for it.
