Adoption Day!

Last month I wrote about a new member of the family. I think in that post I mentioned possibly changing her name. We gave it a few days, but then decided to give her a new name. We narrowed it down to four names (we used rank choice voting), then we posted a Facebook poll to get other folks opinions. But in all honesty, Lindsey and I had our minds made up: Piper! I think she likes the name because she quickly started responding to it. 

The shelter allowed us to foster her for a longer period of time because of her skittish nature, and propensity for running away. Well I am happy to say that Lindsey went today and signed the adoption papers, meaning Piper is officially a member of this crazy family.

She is starting to warm up to us a bit. I mean, she still is terrified, but she does like to run past us, and if we pet her, or give her some scratches, she will stop, turn around, and slowly come back for more. She will do that a few times, then run away. Almost like she is ashamed to admit she enjoys it. 

She is eating a decent amount, but she is still skinny. We even give her chicken or other proteins to help bulk her up. She definitely feels less freakishly skinny, and now is just slightly skinny. She drinks an insane amount of water. She will down her bowl, then Samson’s, then a refill pretty easily. She has no interest in treats, bones, toys, or anything like that. I tried to feed her some steak the other day and she would not take it. I had to put it in her food bowl, mixed with her dog food. We were trying to give her Greenies, but Samson kept going into her crate and eating them. 

She has accidents. She does not bark, so it is taking us a bit to understand her “need to go outside” signs. Piper will walk back and fourth near the door, and sometimes exhale very deeply. That is as close as she gets to making a noise, and it usually means she has to go. 

 I am happy to have Piper in the family.
