The Batman: Some Ideas

There has been a bunch of news coming out of The Batman recently. I need to say that I like Robert Pattinson in the role. People always seem to complain about who they cast, but then when they see the person, they actually like him. Remember how people reacted to Michael Keaton? Or Heath Ledger? Then everyone thought Jared Leto would be amazing as Joker and well, how did that work out? To be fair, I did not think he was awful, just different.

Matt Reeves has said that the movie will be based very loosely on The Long Halloween, but also from other comics and somewhat original. I believe he has said that this will be early in Batman’s career and will be more of a detective story.

For those that do not know, TLH is comic by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. There is a killer in Gotham and he strikes during a holiday each month, Batman has to solve the crime while at the same time preventing a war between two rival crime families.

This is why we are seeing so many actors cast for villain roles. During the investigation, Batman drops in on many of Rogues Gallery. This will be a great way for the DCEU to introduce villains without needing a long movie about them. I hope that Batman drops into Arkham to visit Riddler (Paul Dano) and as he passes by some of the cells, we see familiar names (there better be a scene of a door with no windows and all you hear inside is insane laughing).

My guess is that Penguin (Colin Farrell) will be the rival crime boss to John Turturro’s Carmine Falcone and my theory is that Peter Sarsgaard will play someone close to Bruce Wayne, but then he will turn out to be the killer known as Holiday. Catwoman will be the love interest and at some point it just needs to be Batman stopping her from some crime, but they flirt and then she gets away. Maybe later she comes back into things to give him a hand.

Also, I think a cool way for Batman to slip into Arkham Asylum would be a flashback of some company showing up at Arkham to install new technology and the guy who is in charge yells for someone and it turns out to be RPat in disguise. We then learn that the company is a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises. I hope the movie focuses on Batman training his mind instead of his body. We have seen how he became a great fighter, I want to see him studying with some great private detective in his youth.

I am excited for this movie. I hope they do not try too hard to make it a reboot and force us to sit through another death of his family. Take a cue from the MCU and Spider-Man, they just assumed we all know the backstory at this point. Same with the villains, no need to try and have them all get an origin.
