2020 Democratic Primary: Julian Castro

Who: Julian Castro, former Mayor of San Antonio & Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (2014-2017)

Slogan: “One Nation. One Destiny”

Positive: Believes in a pathway to citizenship for immigration. One of his big successes in San Antonio was universal pre-kindergarten programs. He is Hispanic and would be the first President of United States with that heritage. A young guy, who has plenty of energy and worked under Obama.

Negative: Not sure how well known the HUD Secretary is outside of political junkies. The Latino vote is not as homogeneous as the African-American vote was for Obama (Latino/Hispanic voters can be all over the place, I think Cuban-Americans lean more Republican, I read something about it before).

My Thoughts:  First of all, I love the logo. Blue & black work so well, especially with the accent. I also like that he left the year out of it. If he loses, they can recycle this one. I wonder if Hillary had chosen him as her VP, if that would have helped his profile or hurt him. He was a front-runner for that position and for some reason her team decided on Kaine. If he can really turnout the Latino vote, then I could see him start gaining traction, but I am not sure if that is possible.

Odds: 100/1
Yikes, only 1% probability? I might be willing to take him because of the turnout possibility.
