Random Sports Randomness

It has been a crazy few weeks of sports! First we have to talk about some Penn State stuff…

-The wrestling team won their 11th National Championship, 10th in 12 years. They had the team title wrapped up during the consolation rounds. In fact, they sealed the deal when Spencer Lee decided not to continue after being upset in the semifinals.

-The men’s basketball team had a crazy March. They seemed to be out of contention to make the tournament, then they won a few games at the end of the regular season. They went on a nice run during the Big Ten tournament. They lost in the championship game to Purdue in a close game. That bumped them to a bubble team to a tenth seed. The Nittany Lions won their first game against Texas A&M, which was their first March Madness win since 2001. They lost to Texas in the next round, but it was still an incredible run.

-Then came the bad news. It seems Notre Dame has signed Micah Shrewsberry to be their next coach. Needless to say, fans are upset the Nittany Lions did not offer enough to keep him in Happy Valley. Shrewsberry is from Indiana, so it could be possible that money was not the only selling point.

-The World Baseball Classic was fantastic! The final game between Japan and the United States was about as good as you could get, minus a loss for Team USA. The game coming down to Ohtani vs. Trout? You could not write a better story. I like having it every four years, but I just wish we could get more big name pitchers to participate. Congrats to Japan though for playing a great WBC.

-I saw that Rafael Nadal lost his impressive streak of 912 straight weeks of being ranked in the top ten. That is like 17.5 years. Absolutely crazy. Maybe I need to factor that into my Tennis GOAT post

-Going back to wrestling for a second…Penn State 184 lb 3x champ, Aaron Brooks, said something controversial after his win. He praised Jesus, and then said that Jesus is the one true lord and savior, and no other, including false prophets like Mohammed. Or something to that effect. People are naturally outraged. Lots of people saying he is an Islamophobic bigot and needs to apologize. But honestly, how is that any different from things Muslims say? This is all stupid because we are talking about fairy tales. No one cares if I say Jack & the Beanstalk is not real. I saw someone on Twitter saying how what Brooks said was disgusting, and that it totally demeans a peaceful religion. Yeah, that person must have missed these stories.

-The Pens have played awful lately, but they did just beat the Avalanche. Hopefully this year they can make the playoffs and perhaps win a series this year.

Alright, I think that is enough stuff for today.
