Best of 2023: Favorite Sports Moment

There were a few great sports moments this year. The Pirates started out 20-9 after the first month of the season, then it all went downhill from there. Rickie Fowler won his first tournament in four years, and it was definitely an emotional win for him, and for all of his fans. The Nittany Lions defeated Iowa 31-0, and I think many of you know about my hatred for the Hawkeyes.

Speaking of Penn State, the wrestling team won it’s tenth national championship in twelve years. The best part of it was seeing Spencer Lee get upset by Matt Ramos. I mean, that was not the best part. Lee decided to pull a medical forfeit in his final match, which sealed the championship for the Nittany Lions. I mean, the win was a forgone conclusion, but it was great to win it due to Spencer Lee not wanting to wrestle for third-place.

But that was not my favorite moment. My favorite of this year had to be the Michael Block saga. Allow me to refresh you. Block is a club pro, who ended up placing 15th at the PGA Championship. He actually was tied for second place at one point. On the final day, he hit a hole-in-one while playing with Rory McIlroy. The best part was Rory’s reaction, while Michael did not believe it had actually gone in the hole. People loved the guy, he was emotional, he joked about celebrating, and just generally seemed to have a fun. During a time when golf was continuously dealing with the LIV/PGA debate, the Michael Block story was just what we all needed.
