The Dark Tower…Again, Seriously

Amazon seems to be moving forward with their Dark Tower series. Fortunately, it will not be tied to the movie. Between this and the LOTR series, I am excited about keeping Amazon Prime video.

I realize that the Dark Tower is probably one of the hardest series to adapt. As I have said before, there is nothing you can leave out without drastically changing the story. If you try to change the story around, you have to decide what you want to keep. Do you want the story to be about Roland’s journey for the tower? Or do you want it to be his personal journey and growth as a person? Hopefully in a longer form series, they can just explore all those aspects.

The show has cast Sam Strike as Roland. My guess is the series will start with a younger Roland. Does that mean we learn about his training in Gilead and then his trip to Mejis. I hope so! I think many of us find Wizard and Glass to be our favorite (I honestly do not know, I love all of them so much, I cannot pick a favorite).

The show also casts Jasper Pääkkönen as the Man in Black. I have never heard of him, but I think he has the look for the role. Especially if they are setting it early on in Roland’s career, Pääkkönen looks like he could pull off Marten Broadcloak. The cool thing is that they can use different actors to portray MiB. Someone can play Randall Flagg, someone else can play Walter O’Dim…or maybe they use Pääkkönen and just alter his looks (makeup/CGI can do wonders).

I am cautiously optimistic about this show. Okay, maybe even a little excited.
