The Mandalorian: The Rescue

The season finale delivered in ways that I did not expect. I knew there would be a cool rescue and that we would see Bo-Katan and her partner joining the battle. I figured there would be a cool battle between Mando and Moff Gideon. And I assumed the Dark Troopers would wreak havoc on the plans. There will be major spoilers from here on out.

I felt like Moff Gideon during the episode. I knew how everything would turn out. It was like everyone was just going through the motions. My thought was that Ahsoka Tano would show up (or be involved from the start) and be enough firepower to take on the Dark Troopers.

As the Troopers are slamming into the blast doors, there comes a moment when the spot an X-Wing and Cara says something sardonically about just one fighter not being much help. Then we see the dark hooded figure with a green lightsaber and a single black glove. I was honestly surprised and figured it would end up being someone else. There is no way that it would be Luke Skywalker. My guess was they would introduce us to Ezra Bridger and he would be the Jedi that Grogu connected.

But nope, it was Luke. And it was incredibly cool watching him make short work of the Dark Troopers. One of those things almost killed Mando. And Luke takes on an entire platoon without breaking a sweat. This is the Luke Skywalker we always envisioned. Thank you Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni for finally letting us see him.

The episode ends on a sad/happy note. Mando says goodbye to Grogu who is going with Luke to train to become a Jedi. Grogu touches Din’s helmet, and the Mandalorian removes it to say goodbye. It brought a tear to my eye.

So what does this mean for next season? Does that mean Baby Yoda is gone from the show? Come on, there is no chance of that. We all know the horrible fate Luke’s students suffer in a few years, so hopefully Grogu is not there when Ben Solo decides to turn. My guess is that something happens and Din has to rescue Grogu again or perhaps the child cannot overcome his attachment and Master Luke makes the tough decision to contact the Mandalorian.

Or does the show turn to The Book of Boba Fett? It was interesting to see the end-credit scene where Boba Fett kills Bib Fortuna, who has taken over at Jabba’s palace. It looks like Boba Fett is planning to take over the criminal underworld? Could that become the focus of the show next season. There was not an announcement of a new Boba Fett show the other day, so could that be where this goes? Especially since Pedro Pascal is not happy, could The Mandalorian focus on different characters who wear the armor? Next season about Boba Fett, season four be about Bo-Katan and her quest to rebuild Mandalore? Who knows, I am excited no matter what.
