A Trip to the Eye Doctor

Lindsey and I both wear glasses. Most people do not realize this because we almost always wear our contacts. I first got glasses in third grade and I think Lindsey was earlier than that. We have terrible eyes. Without my glasses I cannot see anything. I think when you get to a certain prescription, they stop giving you a 20/x number, although I believe my eye doctor once said mine is probably like 20/150. Yeah, pretty bad.

Sometimes Payton seems like she is struggling seeing stuff. Especially when she has to read letters, she will lean really close. We were starting to wonder, so Lindsey scheduled Payton an appointment at the same time as mine. My appointment went fine. My vision has not changed in like six years, which is awesome because both of my eyes are the same prescription, so I only buy double of one contact. Very convenient.

Payton’s eye exam was a bit more difficult. The optometrist was incredible. He realized how to get her engaged and she was excited to guess the letters. It turns out that she needs glasses. The lady at the glasses counter was also very cool with how she treated Payton. She kept treating Payton like an adult, telling her she looked sophisticated and pretty, instead of saying she was cute.

Payton was scared about getting glasses, but after the eye appointment, she is now excited for them. She keeps asking if they called to let us know they are ready. It sucks that she inherited our shitty vision, but at least she is excited and she is definitely cute & adorable.
