A few weeks ago the world rejoiced when it was announced that Disney+ would be releasing a new season the 1990s X-Men cartoon. You know the one, it had the greatest opening song for a cartoon ever (okay, it is a tough battle between this and Batman: The Animated Series). The cool thing is the new season will just pick up where the final season left off back in 1997. Fantastic news! Right?

Well at first, but then the internet had to do its thing…which as we all know is…OUTRAGE!!!
Yep, there is an outrage about this show. Are you ready for this? People are pissed about Morph. Wait, who? You remember Morph, he was the shape-shifting mutant who “dies” in like the second episode to save Wolverine. He comes back as a bad guy later, and I think they manage to rescue him. Well for the new season, Morph will be non-binary. Disney has made the X-Men go woke!
Yep, that is something people actually say. Check out this unhinged post that was directed towards the writer. Now, this could be a troll making a joke. But if you read the comments on the post, you would see that there are plenty of people who feel similarly.
It actually makes sense that a mutant with the ability to change into anyone would identify as non-binary. If that term were around in the mid-90s, they would have went that way with Morph back then. And before my liberal friends attack me saying non-binary was a thing back then, sure, but it was not as widely known (okay, actually seems to have originated in 2000, so there).
It is crazy to think people watched X-Men, or read the comics, and did not pick up that acceptance of different people is kind of the whole theme. If you watch the early episodes, or the first movies, mutants are yelled at and discriminated against in similar ways as members of the LGBTQ community. In X2, Iceman has to come out to his parents that he is a mutant.
But really, this outrage stemmed from somewhere else. It started with Rogue’s ass. This started as a joke. People posting the image of Rogue from the original series…
People then found images from the new X-Men ’97 and noticed that Rogue’s ass is much less curvy. Which then caused other people to find instances from the original where her ass did not look that good. And you realize how fuckin’ crazy this sounds? A bunch of weirdos comparing images of a cartoon character’s butt.
Again, this started as a joke. People saying stuff like “this is what they took from us!” Just good fun. Kind of like when someone made the joke/comment that Batman could help Gotham more by spending all his money on social programs to help combat poverty. That started as a funny joke, then people on the left (yep, blaming my own side, see I can do both sides!) would comment this on any Batman post, and then they started to shit all over Batman. This happened here as well, the Rogue jokes were funny, but then as more people screamed that it was proof of Disney being woke, they started looking for more examples, and guess who they found??? Classic hero, Morph. People screaming that this ruined their childhood. You know, fucking MORPH! The least remembered member of the X-Men.
