Fight Club 2

I finally read the comic book sequel to one of my favorite books and movies.  I loved Fight Club the first time I saw it and immediately bought the book, which caused me to become a huge fan of Chuck Palahniuk. I was pretty skeptical of this idea, but saw it the other day at Barnes & Noble and decided to give it a shot.

It was pretty good. I will not lie, it was pretty weird at times, but it pays it off pretty nicely by reminding the reader that the book and movie had different endings and that Tyler Durden was not the hero of the story. It is very meta at times and Palahniuk is a character in the book. By the end, he it turns out that he is just pitching the idea to other writer friends and they are picking apart his ending. 

I am not totally sure if I liked it or not. I enjoyed Palahniuk’s attempts at trying to explain to people that Tyler is not a role model. Also, the art was pretty damn good. I don’t know, the rest of it was just…blah. 

This felt like a much older writer, trying very hard to capture the spirit of his own self when he was younger. Obviously things have changed for Palahniuk, he is most likely not the same guy as he was back when he wrote the first book. None of us are the same.
