History Fact: This city was mostly Roman in the 13th century, particularly after the Ostrogothic Kingdom fell. It then became more Slavic over the years and eventually became a major maritime rival to Venice. This city-state was an early adopter to many modern institutions. For example, the city abolished slavery in 1418, a medical service with pharmacy (which is still in use today) in 1301, and a quarantine hospital was established in 1377.
Climate Fact: Between a sub-tropical and Mediterranean climate. Low 40s in the winter, 80s in the summer. Sounds pretty nice to me.
Tourist Fact: The walls of the city are incredibly thick at some places (13-20 feet). The city and the walls were used for King’s Landing in Game of Thrones.
