House of the Dragon: The Rogue Prince

So the show is definitely speeding through. I think this episode was six months after the first episode and it looks like the next episode will be at least nine months later. The episode was full of people talking about what needs to be done. That is not a knock, the discussions and meetings are very important and will set things up nicely.

-The Crabfeeder was cool and definitely a brutal way to deal with prisoners. I look forward to seeing Daemon heading there and setting some shit on fire with his dragon.

-I know people were weirded out by the offering of a little girl up as Viserys future bride, but at least he decided to go a different route. Sadly to the detriment of the realm. Corlys teaming with Daemon will have consequences.

-Okay, the showdown at Dragonstone. I really wanted Daemon to fight Otto. Their hatred definitely reminds me of Jaime and Ned in S1 of GOT. However, the way things end up was rather satisfying. Rhaenyra showing up on her dragon to force Daemon to give back the egg. Definitely helped assert her power and showed us that Daemon may like to cause chaos and act like a petulant child, but deep down he is loyal to his family (and he has a thing for his niece).

-Will King Viserys make it to the end of the season? Or will these cuts add up and end his life? I hope not, I would like to see Paddy sitting around working on his model while discussing Old Valyria for at least a full season.

-There have been two references to the dragon Vhagar. Something tells me we will see Vhagar before too long. For those that are unaware, during this period, Vhagar is the oldest dragon. She is now almost the same size as Balerion had been during Aegon’s Conquest. A quick history lesson. Viserys was the last person to ride Balerion. The dragon was so big at that point that he could barely get into the sky and died shortly after. However, there is an even cooler Balerion story. Years before, Princess Aerea claimed Balerion and together they flew off and disappeared for a few two years. When they returned, the princess was very ill and Balerion had a giant wound (it was over nine feet long and still dripped blood). The princess died of an illness and it was believed that Balerion had taken her to Valyria and she contracted some illness there, while some giant beast from inside the mountain attacked the Black Dread (what a fantastic nickname). I love the idea that there are scarier monsters lurking in Valyria than dragons.
